Volunteering with Shake
Hands in village Hathoj (Jaipur) was a great experience. The
people there are extremely friendly. I met lots of Women through
the children which was a great opportunity to learn about their
life and culture. The children are really great and wonderful.
They are motivated and eager to learn, I had a great time. I
stayed with a family. The family was really nice and friendly. I
shared the room with another volunteer and tried different kind of
food. The food was good.

Services for volunteers in India
While working with the
SHAKE HANDS volunteer will be a part of our family. We will be
delighted to feel you like at home by the service excellence at par.
We are always with you to provide you the support and guidance while
working with us and to make your trip memorable.
Pickup form Airport
On arrival at Delhi Airport you will meet our representative and then
transferred to a hotel for an overnight stay. The following day we
will depart from Delhi to project location by Train / Bus.
Project Orientation
We organized an orientation for each program where you will gain an
understanding of Indian history, its culture, volunteering in India,
an introduction to Hindi and organizational rules and regulation. Also
included are work area visit, local market visit and other.
Safety
a) Our team member will pick you at the Delhi airport on arrival as
well as take you to the airport at departure.
b) We place volunteers in very safe and peaceful environment while
staying and working.
c) Shake Hands team can give great guidance and instruction about the
local and national transportation and about the outing around the
project location.
d) All the team members have mobile phones, so getting in contact in
an emergency is not difficult. You are always welcomed to get in
contact with the staff at any time on our cell phones during your
entire stay.
e) Mobile phones are also common on the all project location SIM cards
and pre-paid cards are pretty affordable. So, bring your phone, staff
will help you to get a SIM card.
f) The volunteer’s home/host families are chosen near health care
facilities.
Accommodation & Meals
We offer comfortable accommodation and easy approach to project sites
for the volunteers. (a) For Jaipur location, you are provided
accommodation in volunteer’s home. The volunteer’s home is residential
and fully equipped with some modern and some traditional arrangements
for the volunteers. Please do not expect a luxurious placement with a
cozy accommodation. There is a facility of 3 - 4 sharing rooms with
western toilets. The team serves quality Indian food to the volunteers
in the home. In the volunteer’s home, arrangement of T.V., DVD and
music system with ample of space to celebrate special occasions and
spent leisure time. (b) For all other location, volunteer’s stay with
a well-educated Indian family. At the placement volunteers live with a
local family as a member of the family and has a separate room on twin
and triple sharing with other volunteers. The families provide 3 meals
a day and volunteers will be eating the same food that the family
eats.
Excursion
Weekend short excursion tours to various interesting destinations will
be providing at additional cost and also included with combination to
work & travel program, summer program and gap year programs.
Admin support
Shake Hands team will always be available to provide guidance and
admin support to the volunteers who like to go for individual
excursions on weekends or at program end, matters related to Hotel
reservation, Guide, Transportation and Money Exchange etc.
